Attn House buyers - Land Registry increasing fees from 6th July

For anyone that is moving house soon, check your conveyancing quote.

I was quoted £280.00 as a land registry fee and thought it a bit funny as I had originally thought it would be £220.00 to register the property (this is the current price for our purchase price)

It turns out HM Land Registry will be increasing their fees from the 6th July so if you complete after then it is worth double checking that your solicitor has the correct fee from you or else you could face an additional bill from them later on!

    Another inflation-busting increase. I make that about a 27% increase. And we're supposed to be in deflation. What a joke

    "Fee increases are rare. Since 1993, eight of the nine Fee Orders (amending the level of fees) introduced by Land Registry have reduced fees. We will, of course, keep the new fees closely under review."

    I'd be amazed if the fees reduced when housing transactions go back to normal levels.

    Unbelievably they have done in the past!

    People need to watch conveyancing quotes as i suspect a lot of on-line quote programs haven't been updated and are still giving the old figures, which I think is dishonest, but it is a bit galling to lose some business because someone has been told the fee is £220 instaed of £280, and they later find out it will be what I told them it would be!

    As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

    Yes, on more than one occasion. And some services are free at the moment and have been for a long time. An example of this being Searches of the Index Map (if there are less than 10 titles involved).

    But what you have to remember is that if the £150k property you're looking at drops 1% in a month that's a saving of £1.5k so no need to rush into anything to save £60. Obviously a different kettle of fish if you're already going ahead with a purchase.
