  • Since you've looked at cartridge world, I assume you don't have a problem using 2nd hand cartridges?

For new, I've always used Amazon for best value.

For used, we quite often get flyers from IJT direct. Don't know how good they are, but they seem cheap!

You can probably buy an Epson printer for the price of cartridges for most HP printers and they run well on compatibles which are dirt cheap.

If you prefer to stick with your current printer don't forget to take a look on eBay.
  • no problem at all using 2nd hand cartridges, will defo try amazon, ijt and ebay. we only brought this printer about 8 months ago, I didnt realise there was such a price difference re ink and with different makes of printer to be honest. we got this one in a 'sale' which seems a false economy now we realise how expensive the ink is..bit dissapointed at that. kwikbreaks, could you recommend a decent epson? thanks

Well I was looking to replace an HP cartridge quick and was in Tesco. I saw an Epson SX200 which is a multifunction scanner/copier/printer for £40 so I bought that instead of the new cartridge. It takes 4 cartridges and a set on eBay costs £7.95 delivered. I use more black than colours and they cost about £2 each delivered too if you buy several at once.

Anybody doing a lot of printing should probably look at a continuous delivery system but for occasional use they are overkill.

If you print photos then don't - you can get then done from memory cards/CDs/etc. cheaper and better than printing yourself in most Tescos or Boots and virtually any inkjet will befine for general purpose printing.

Most Epsons run on cheap compatibles so just look out for one in a supermarket when you are shopping and check the ink costs. You could buy one online but you'll be paying post on top so the saving may be little to nothing.

This definately sounds like the way forward to me!! It has got to be better than spending £25ish on ink everytime! Thank you for your advise kwikbreak, very much appreciated :)

We have a Brother DCP all in one scanner/printer/copier. Hubby buys a full set of 3 colours and 1 black ink for around £8 delivered on ebay (well that was the price last time we bought some). The more sets you buy the cheaper they are so we buy in bulk and go halves with my Dad. We have have no problems with storing the ink for long periods of time.

Take a look at Valueshop.co.uk always good prices, especially for genuine cartridges.

Unless you use your printer regularly and frequently I would be wary of compatible cartridges as they have a tendency of drying up at the print head. This leads to repeated cleaning cycles.

Beware also when buying off ebay. Avoid the schoolboy filling discarded cartridges with a syringe and sticking a bit of sellotape over the print head seal. It only takes one cartridge to spring a leak and saving a couple of bob suddenly doesn't appear so attractive anymore.

Take a look at rubberfrog.com for decent re-manufactured compatibles. Also SVP.co.uk is always worth a look.

If you are a high volume user a continuous ink system is a good convenient and cheap answer. Take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AKRUfNpxF0&feature=related to see one in action on an HP printer.
