Income Protection Insurance

Hi,

Can anybody refer me to or recommend from their own experience a suitable Income Protection provider?

I have no mortgage in my own name at present ( mortgage is in OH's name only) but I'm looking for a policy that would payout to cover mortgage + key bills in event of me being made redundant as I am main earner.

Thanks!

  • I have a policy with Norwich Union, which I have had for about three years. Not had to make a claim yet, so not sure how good they are. Originally taken out to cover £1,000 pm, but the cover and premium are increased by inflation automatically each year (although you can opt out of this increase). This costs me £29 pm. This does not cover redundancy as this more than doubled the premium, reason I opted for this was because I do not get any sick pay at all (except SSP), so wanted to cover mortgage etc.
You can only cover a maximum percentage of your take home, think with Norwich Union this was circa 50%.

    Hope this helps

I have a Norwich Union policy too,- but it does not cover unemployment - more of a PHI type policy although they call it income protection

check this factor out when looking at insurers and their policies
