Sickness rights?

This is an alternative login as others know real username but this has got me so angry I have to ask.
What are the rights of an employee to leave work early to go off sick?
For example if the employee is feeling uncertain in the morning about how they feel, decide to make the effort to get into work and realise after a couple of hours they made the wrong decision and are too ill to be there. Does the employee have the right to say 'I don't feel well I am going home' (just like they could have done if they had just called in sick in the morning)
Can a manager refuse to allow the employee to go home citing they are too busy even though the ill employee is being more of a hindrance than help?
If there are any rights how can I find this in writing to pass to the manager?

You need to refer to your sickness policy.
I have not seen a policy that prevents a employee going home if they are ill (as the employer has a duty of care to that employee and other employers around them).
Saying that though, unless the nature of illness dictates it, a employee can't just "down tools" and walk out. There will need to be some kind of handover and authority to leave the premises.

Thanks will have a look through. She has been sat in the office doing nothing but make mistakes all morning and running to the bathroom. She finally got sent home - she did not make it to the bathroom in time and had to be sick in a bin - office smells bad now (during dinner time too!!) but it got her sent home! Such unnecessary agro and upset. I think I would always not play safe now and just call in sick in the morning rather then try and be a 'good employee' noone thanks you for your efforts.0
