my mum has worked for m and s for over 20 years and has always managed to do most of her groceryshopping from the staff discount food shop, this is where food where the sell by date is soon is sold to staff for low low prices.
last month the manager informed the staff that there would no longer be a staff food shop at the end of each day and the food would all be sold to customers on the shop floor.
i am sure that because it has been happing for a long period of time that it now forms part of her contract...
does anyone else work for m and s? or any other high street shop? and suffered from this?

It does not form part of her contract at all.
Her contract of employment is entirely seperate from staff being allowed to buy food before its throw out at the end of the day.0 -
employment contracts dont have to be in writing, if you dont have a written contract then your 'contract' is basicly what is done everyday.0

basicly if there is a change to your day to day job then it needs the permission of both the employer and employee
m and s have basicly just told the staff what is going to happen, hoping that no one pipes up and appeals against it0 -
The staff shop is absolutly nothing to do with her contract of employment so that argument is irrelevent.0

The one I worked in, they did put plenty of reduced stuff out every day but also did staff waste on Saturday evening. That's because there is reduced stuff at the end of every day, i.e. stuff that's about to go out of date. They'd rather get something for it, but still, a HUGE amount of stuff got destroyed. A bit obscene really. But at least some did go to staff on Saturdays.
Staff waste has been going on for decades. It'll be a BIG THING for staff if they stop it. I wonder why they are? It's of no obvious advantage to M&S to withdraw that perk.:idea:0 -

But it isn't part of her job. Her job isn't buying food for herself is it? It's an added perk for staff which they are now taking away. It's nothing to do with the job she does.
If they cut her hours or pay without discussing it with her first then she'd have a case but not with something like this. Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies
