BT charging me two months line rental on monthly bill and blaming Brtish Government

Just had my monthly email notification of BT bill. Got a bit of a shock when I viewed it as they wanted far more than normal. On investigating they were charging me line rental and billing charges for two months and not one. I phoned and was given the excuse that this was a software change and that the British Government had insisted that this happen. Asked to speak to a supervisor who confirmed the Gordon Brown excuse. Absolutely no prior notice of this. It would appear that I am now paying one month in advance for my line rental and call package whereas before it was one month behind. Not happy at all as there appears nothing I can do about it. They have increased my line rental by one pound which they feel is a good deal as it covered the 0870 and 0845 call reduction. I complained that all these companies have now moved to 0871 and 0844 but they didn't get my point. I'm tied in with this lot until next February. If I've got this then so will everyone else.:mad:

We've had something similar happen, in fact I think it's the same. A £1 increase in line rental and some billing changes to, according to them, bring us in line with EU legislation. End result is that we are now £15.45 in debit and, when I checked the statement they hadn't taken the DD for March. After a few e-mails and a phone conversation with a nice lady I am supposed to believe that come the next quarterly statement everything will be ok and we will no longer be in debit and I need make no alteration to our DD, hardly likely as our monthly DD is for £15 and our new monthly charges are £15.45 and we still have to make up the debit amount.
Shortly after this debacle I received a customer satisfaction survey which I duly completed, I hope it hits the spot but I fear that it won't matter one jot that I have pointed that we weren't informed of these changes beforehand and that I am unhappy with both it and the length of time it took me to get an answer, which I'm still not happy with.
End result is that I'm looking to change provider, what're Talk Talk like?Live long and prosper0 -
Heya dinglebert,
There are a couple of reasons why this could happen, send me a PM with your details and I will be happy to check.
Cheers,
Stephanie
