Contribution based NI

Hi all,
I'm signing on for JSA but am not receiving any kind of allowance (no money at all) as I do not have enough NI contributions (been living abroad). I have now been signing on for 2 years. But when I asked the people at the Jobcentre they tell me that I am only paying credits towards my NI contribution. So does this mean I will never ever get Job Seekers Allowance ? It seems a person can only get JSA if they have paid 2 consecutive years worth of Class 1 NIC. So does anyone know anything about this as I cant seem to get any sense from those down the dole office !!! I'm going around in circles !! eeekkk
Cheers

If you have a partner who's working you won't be entitled to income based JSA. If you're single you're entitled to income based - ask the job centre about it and ask whether you're entitled.0

Hi Sharon
No it's Contribution based NI.0 -
there are two types of JSA - contributions based, which you can only get if you have made enough NI contributions over the last few years and and income related which is means tested. If you are single or your partner isn't working then you may be entitled to the second type even if you haven't made any NI contributions.0
