please can you help me with regard to using my electron card whilst booking online with ryan air. unfortunately on numerous occasions thy fail to recognise my card which i have used successfully with other online ferries. today i have again tried to book with ryan air using my electron card but they refuse it this is the only means to pay ryan air without incurring charges but convenientlly their software doesn't recognise it today i used the same electron card but i called it a debit card which it is and they accepted it and charged me £5 per person per flight which totalled £50 on top on my cheap air fare. this is most unfair and possibly illegal as ryan air do not allow you to pay by any others means without incurring a eztra charge. i've contacted my bank and they verify that my card is valid and functional. i wrote to ryan air 3 months ago but was ignored and never got a reply this problem is not new this is ongoing over the last 18 months and its very frustrating ryan air think they can do as they want and they seem to do.
Cheers,irishlou.

I have just booked a flight with RyanAir for the first time. I was shocked at the charges. I used a Visa Debit card to pay for tickets for 2 people. It was one transaction but they charged me twice for using the card.
Incidentally does anyone know what you do when you get to the airport when you have checked in Online? Where do you take your cases and how do they get labelled. My email from Ryanair says that I should print off borading cards for both ways travel before I go.
Any advice appreciated.0 -

My first Visa Electron (issued by a Swedish bank) behaved in exactly the same manner. I checked it out with the bank, and they informed me the card was not allowed for internet purchases which should explain why it did not work as a Visa Electron. Why it then worked as a Visa debit card is beyond my understandng. To make a long story short I cancelled that card (got the annual fee refunded) and opened a new one with another bank in Sweden (with no annual fee). The latter card is without any annual fee but with a percentage applied wneh maiking a deposit, a bit similar to the Entropay virtual card but with a real physical plastic card.0 -

You take them with your boarding cards to a desk that was a check in desk.

Visa Electron, strictly speaking, shouldn't work at all online. It's not supposed to work at all under 'cardholder not present' circumstances, but the widespread adoption of the card as being suitable for those with low incomes in rich countries, combined with the widespread adoption as the 'main' card in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe means that they've had no choice but to change this.
But there often is such a 'block' on Visa Electron - my Polish bank does just that, though it's lifted upon request. From Poland...with love.

It can happen, and Visa is to blame for allowing this to happen in the first place. I don't know the answer - except who is your card issued by? It's very common for Poles to try Visa Debit when online (in fact, it's recommended by some banks!) - and quite frankly, Visa are idiotic for allowing this to go on.
Having said this, if Ryanair refused to accept it as Electron, then you should've given up there. From Poland...with love.
