Turkey - Visa Debit card

Hi, my wife if going to turkey in two weeks for a girly holiday.

Can anyone advise if you can use a normal visa debit bank card over there in the ATM's?

Also is it £10 to pay for the visa on entering passport control?

And lastly I have booked the Myra hotel, anyone know of it and is it in a good spot for marmaris?

  • Normal cards work over there. When I went it was a ten quid note for the visa. Had to be a ten quid note, not anything else, but that was 2 years ago nearly. Dont know about the hotel...

the folk in passport control in turkey are to put it mildly, miserable gits!!

I'm just back from Turkey. You need to give an English £10 note for the visa. You can use your normal visa at the ATM's.

Do not take any Scottish notes as they will not be accepted.

Strictly speaking, Scottish bank notes aren't even legal tender in Scotland  so they will not be accepted in other countries.

I am heading to Marmaris next Thursday and will be taking a small amount in Turkish Lira and the rest in English Pounds. You may have to ask your bank in advance to have some English notes in stock for your withdrawal.

Visa debit accepted widely. Let your bank know you will be in Turkey so they don't flag it up as dodgy use when you use your card.

Try & get a Nationwide debit card as the rates are competitive & they do not charge a handling fee for Turkey.
Have a look at trip advisor for the hotel & also google forums for that area.

Thank you to all that post & contribute, I think you are wonderful, I could not achieve without your help :)
