TTC (soon) how can I prepare?

Hello everyone

OH and I are going to start TTC in July after our holiday in Cyprus (my brother is getting married over there and we are going for a two week holiday) I didnt want to start trying now, cos I would like to have a drink on holiday (nothing to excessive, I am not a big drinker)

I have been off the pill for over a year now and we are just using condoms as protection.

What can I do to prepare my body to give the baby as much a healthy start as possible?

Someone at work told me to take folic acid? how soon should I be taking them?

Is there anything else I need to know?

    Hi

You might want to post this in the TTC thread cos the girls on there are very friendly and helpful.

You should start taking Folic Acid now - 3 months before you conceive is great but remember to take it up to 12 weeks.

Do you exercise? Take it up now and maintain it through pregnancy. I don't exercise but wish I had done as it's a bit silly to do things my body's not used to now!!

Eat and drink healthily - don't smoke - you or OH.

Relax and don't get stressed out when you do TTC

There are also things your man could be doing to make sure his sperm is in top shape!

Hope this helps - have fun BD'ing and hope to see you on the pregnancy thread before I leave in September!

As soon as or just before TTC take the acid

I would not worry about drinking (in moderation) while TTC many a happy bundle has resulted from the odd drink!

Hiya, come and join us over on the TTC thread as glamazon said :D oh and learn some of the abbreivations lol. It sometimes can be confusing with everything talking in what is pretty much code ;)

Definatly take folic acid, start now and once you get your bfp take it until you are 12 weeks.

    Have fun whilst TTC to.

Good luck and have a good holiday xxx

I got my Folic Acid in Tesco - think it was a couple of quid for 90 which will do the first 3 months.

My baby was conceived sometime over Christmas and New Year - so I drank plenty over this time! As soon as I got my BFP, I stopped drinking and haven't had one since but that was my choice.

One other piece of advice - when you do start BD'ing - don't do it everyday. Every other day is best - You need a break for OH's stores to regenerate ;)

...and while you are TTC try to avoid aspirin, strong coffee and raspberry leaf tea, especially if there's any chance you could be very newly pregnant.

All the best when you TTC.

How many coffees should I be having?

    Can I have tea instead?

I will pop over to tesco, is it something I have to ask for or will it be on the chemist/shops shelf?
