What a mess we are in

Me and OH are in a right mess due to our own fault as mention on my previous thread we are in 6000 debt and are with a debt management company well thats been going fine but we have got reckless with money and as we have no credit cards in case of an emergency we have been using savings and as a result we now have no savings or fund for an emergency and i know the car needs fixing sooner rather than later but haven't the money. Also i have student fees of 450 to find as well as 300 for wall insulation to get our energy bills down.So i have decided to take a payment break and get the money from what i would pay to the debt in savings as i said earlier this is our only way of doing it, i am in need of some support as ways to save money as our spending is out of control. So now i am cutting back on food shopping and aiming to spend £20 a week and this will be for cleaning products and food for work and home.Do you think this is possible and what can you suggest.:eek:

I would seriously suggest a spending diary, so you know where you are being reckless. (mine is takeaways) If its just the 2 of you then £20 should be ample, may be easier for you to work it out as either an £80 4weekly/monthly shop, then £60-65 can go on food, whilst the rest covers the cleaning costs.

A full statement of affairs would be a good start. theres a link to the SOA form at the start of the DFW pages.

£20 a week for food for 2 is achievable providing that you're cooking your meals from scratch and you make sure they're well balanced. Try the Old Style board and particularly Weezels 50p a day thread for inspiration.

The question you have to ask yourself is why did you get reckless with money? and can you prevent it happening again? Is cavity wall insulation really essential and can you afford to do it? Perhaps you could delay it or apply for a grant towards it. £300 seems a bit steep if you're already struggling.
