Concrete garage question

Hi
I have a stand alone pre-fab concrete garage dating back to when Jesus was lad. I have a plan to extend it and clad some of it to stop it looking like and Eastern Blok toilet. My question is; what's the best way to attahe battens to the concrete to enable me to build onto it? Has anyone here done anything like this?
regards
skinny

  • :beer:There is almost nothing that will drill into concrete panels (Diamond drill maybe) to the extent you need to battern it. Normal drill bits last 1/2 a hole if you get good ones. There will be either round pebbles or 1/2 limestone chipping inside + steel reinforcement. We have even tried a Spit Pulsa nail gun that can put a 20mm nail into a steel RSJ, but that just shattered a 2" hole into the concrete. Is the finish plain concrete or pebbledash???
You could just finish in Decopierre type stones or brick effect. You can find them on youtube or web
  • We have recently battened out a concrete sectional garage and used a fixing called rapiers these are a masonary screw where you drill a 6mm hole and the rapiers screw directly into the masonary wether that be brick or concrete.

What about trying one of the No-Nails type products.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

not wishing to be a scraremongerer....

Some old concrete structures, garages are a prime example, have some asbestos content within the concrete.

    Please check this before drilling.

I have successfully stuck 2X1 battens with no more nails onto this type of wall then used feather edge to cover. |reasonably cheap, relatively light weight and don't look too bad at all... (even if i do say so my self ;) )
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p
