Bank charges & debt collectors

Hi,
I have received a letter from a debt collector regarding a debt of £554 I have with the Woolwich.
This debt is all bank charges & I was wondering how to go about claiming these charges back if possible now that they have been passed on.
I haven't tried to claim before as I wasn't sure what to do.
Please can someone advise me if I can still claim these back & if so what do I say to the debt collectors to get them to hold back on any action?
Many thanks for any help & advice.
Denise

First things first is a SAR to woolwich. Next thing is not to deal with debt collectors and make them aware that you dispute the amount of the debt owed. DO NOT AGREE ANYTHING WITH THE DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY. No payments nada. If they threaten you with court, that's great cos you will counter claim for the bank charges.

You can still claim, you need to estabilsh if the debt has been sold or just assigned.

If it has been sold, you essentially need to claim from Woolich who will pay you directly if sucessful and in theory you should use that to pay the DCA.

If it has just been assigned, follow the advice above, although beware that until the debt is repayed (i.e. your charges refunded) you are still liable so they might still take action.
