When I was younger, I had a couple of baby teeth which the dentist removed. The adult teeth were growing through but were not pushing the baby teeth out properly, rather they were pushing their way through alongside the baby teeth.

Dentist yanked them out without any anaesthetic because he thought the adult teeth might not come through straight. Could your daughter have the same problem?

Can you not ring the dentist up and ask him/her beforehand. There may be a medical explanation why he/she thinks they need to be pulled out.

Just back from outpatients. 3year old DS jumped off settee and broke his leg on Wednesday so ended up in A&E all evening waiting for temporary cast and had to return today for proper one - there's always something going on in our house:rolleyes:

Pretty happy that teeth will fall out on their own but will give dentist a call next week to find out why she's going down this route.

    Thanks.

When my milk teeth were really wobbly but wouldn't come out, my dad would get a bit of string, tie it round the tooth a pull both ends - came straight out and didn't hurt a bit. :D

I had to have a wobbly baby tooth pulled out when I was a kid. My adult tooth was starting to come through, but because the baby tooth was still in the way it was coming through crooked. I wish the dentist had actually pulled it other earlier because I still ended up with a brace to straighten out the adult tooth.

It's a fine line between scaring the kid, and putting them off dentists forever, and doing what should be done on the day it should be done.

A 13 yr old is usually capable of accepting a brace, taking a tooth out in a 7 yr old could easily put them off for life.

You might have been perfectly able to cope with it - but hindsight is a wonderful thing. You might well have still needed the brace had he taken it out earlier too.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Not that I am recommending it at all but when my son had his first wobbly tooth it was hanging out of his mouth and he asked his little sister (then aged 2 or 3) to punch him and knock it out. It did the trick but I was mortified!!!

Wash your hands, give it a wiggle, you'll be able to feel if it's ready.

Then if you can feel (usually with a fingernail) a gap above the main part of the tooth that's next to the gum it's usually ready to go.

Grip firmly with your fingers'pop' it should be out.

Only do it if it's ready. I'd never pull as tooth that hadn't dissolved enough to be ready and willing to come out.

A few of my DD's came out this way, I didn't want her going to sleep with a tooth dangling in her mouth.

You can get a better grip by holding it with a bit of tissue paper.

Oh just the talk of wobbly teeth gets my stomach turning - there's been an outbreak of tooth wobbles where I'm teaching at the moment and it's so hard smiling placidly while children gleefully demonstrate how they can flip their tooth at right angles and love the fact you're turning green with it. The latest wobbly tooth had tenacity which amazed me - it kept the class blissfully distracted for days, defied apples and everything before finally giving in!
