Me Vs Water company in Small claims next month

About 3 years ago I got combined water bill of £2000 rather than my normal £200.

I had several engineer visits where they were unable to identify the cause of the high usage, I discussed with the engineers when they were onsite and it seemed it could be a number of reasons some of which I am liable for and some not. I was shocked when they sent letters saying they had decided the problem had been a leak that i had fixed and therefore i was liable, the main reason for this was a similar occurance up the road in a similar house.

The water company took the stance that I was liable for the entire amount and they would not entertain my offers to pay some but not all the of the bill. I got so worried about the legal letters and final demands I started a small claims action against them.

I am going to court next month, I was after some advice if I have any chance of winning?

Im quite worried about the whole thing.

    Welcome to the forum.

I am a little puzzled about what you are claiming?

I can understand you defending a claim, but making a claim??
  • to stop their debt collection agency adding costs to the bill and to bring the matter to a head, i started the claim to get the bills changed written off.

i was told this would put me in a better position than if i had paid the bill and then taken them to court to get the money back

Have you tried the Consumer Council for Water?

Regardless of the merits/demerits of your case, it will be interesting to see if the Small Claims court will entertain such a claim - I hope they will.
