Pregnant and overdue. Anyone else?

Hi
My baby was due on the 24th April, so am now 11 days over! Finding it so difficult to stay positive and to not run through lots of hideous scenarios in my head. Not really sure why I am posting here, but if anyone else is overdue and very fed up - let me know!
I post on another forum, but all those due in April bar 3 or 4 people have now had their babies and have gone onto a newborn forum! Makes me feel very alone.
p.s. I am being induced on Thursday, and seeing as there is no sign of baby coming out before then, I am resigned to being induced (though very very scared)
Help anyone?!?!?!?!!?

Apparently pineapple is suppposed to help bring on the contractions. Also twiddling your nipples (releases oxytocin) having sex and getting the sperm to the cervix and reaching orgasm if possible. Curry is supposed to help or driving along bumpy roads.

It's really frustrating being overdue and I really feel for you. Hopefully you are now in labour and don't need any of these tips which I'm sure you have heard incessantly you poor thing!
    Try to rest though.

You have to eat shed loads of pineapple for that to have any effect so I heard.
Twiddling the nipples I think has to be done for a decent amount of time (think longer than 5 mins!).
i tried EVERYTHING with my DS. Sex, curry, pineapple, drinking raspberry leaf tea and I still ended up being induced so from my experience it's all a con!
Don't be scared. I was induced with the pessary (they did it twice, first time didn't work) and it was fine. In fact the only thing I didn't like was being stuck on the labour ward, too hot and not enough space but thats just my person bugbear!
Hope it kicks off for you before Thursday but if not good luck for your induction. Just keep reminding yourself that meeting your new baby is only round the bend.

My DD (now 10 months) was 18 days late. My midwife messed up and didn't book me in to see consultant, I was just forgotten about tbh!! I was glad though as I didn't want to be induced and both my brothers were over 2 weeks late so I wasn't worried. I went for a really long walk and proper marched cos I was so fed up, it seemed to do the trick as I went into labour that eve (but might have happened anyway)

Just to point out that in many countries full term is considered 41 weeks, rather than 40, so don't worry yourself too much. It is very common for babies to be late. If you get really worried you can ask to see midwife at any time.

I tried to make lot's of plans to go out places, as if I didn't go into labour at least it was taking my mind off it, and I had this weird logic that if I made good plans the baby would come as I was tempting fate so to speak!

try and sleep as much as poss! it is so tiring. Good luck with it all, you will be great, just go with it, try n relax and your baba will be born one way or another! x

My DD was 3 weeks late, I felt like I'd been pregnant forever! I was booked in to be induced but ended up going into labour myself two days beforehand. It was a nice easy 3 hour labour (no worse than period cramp), 3 strong pains and a 6 minute delivery  the poor midwife only had time to get one glove on!

Definitely Rampant sex (really rampant sex) helps. Confirmed....no joke
  • My wife was 8 days over due with our first child. Hardly anyone gives birth on their due date btw.

Her contractions were brought on we think by a long walk carrying two slightly heavy bags. (8 hours later they started)

I'm not sure if the sex works, me thinks that was a male who started that one :)

I went 12 days overdue with my first and was induced - its not as scary as it sounds to be honest(and if your going for an epidural they can give it to you before they induce you).

Good luck and don't worry too much us women wouldn't keep having more kids if it was.

I'm a student midwife and I'm going to say what I'd say to anyone else. Sex, sex, sex. Like someone else said the gel we use to induce you with is a manufactured semen, so why not have the real stuff.

Hang in there, thursdays only a day away and I hope by then you'll have a lovely baby in your arms. All the best for the labour :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. Am still here, with no signs of labour. Its so disappointing waking up every morning and realising that I am still pregnant!
Have to say I have tried everything - raspberry tea, pineapple, walking, bouncing on ball etc. Unfortunately the one thing that people keep suggesting isn't on the cards........ my husband apparently doesn't find me very attractive at the moment (if you know what I mean....) so we haven't managed that one.
I am truly resigned to being induced tomorrow and don't have any particular feelings about having a 'natural' labour anyhow. Just can't help worrying about something going wrong. I have read too many forums I think.
I don't get seen until 6pm tomorrow evening and apparently that is for the pessary gel, then I get sent home to go back the following morning for another pessary, then home again until evening. Going to be a long process I think
