Can you reclaim bank charges against a bank if you work for them?!

Are there any added complications if you try reclaim bank charges from the bank that you not only bank with but that you also work for?! It seems a little bit of a dicey situation if they pay your salary into that account and you are supposed to represent them as a member of staff - or should this pose no problem whatsoever?

Thanks for any information anyone can give me, especially if this has happened to you or you work for a bank and you know their thinking on the matter.

Providing you have not defaulted on the accounts and if you have financial problems you would need to make your line manager aware, then there is no reason why you can't claim back charges if you work for the company.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Can I just ask you to explain what defaulting on your account would include (I'm guessing going over an arranged overdraft may constitute this - and this is where the charges came from) and could there be repercussions if a line manager were not told a member of staff was reclaiming?

    Many thanks

That is not a default. exceeding an overdraft is not a default on bank accounts. There is nothing that states that you have to tell your line manager anything. The issue is if you have financial problems because that can affect the way you work. If you have not been formally defaulted ie default notice issued to you which is half way towards your account being closed then don't worry. All banks' carry out random checks for CCJ's, defaults, etc, etc, I don't think from what you have written that it constitutes financial misconduct.

Hi! I am trying to figure out the same thing! Let me know what you come up with! My worr is that i work in the bank acc department and even though i do believe bank charges are wrong i don't refund everyone that calls in asking for a refund because i can't (very clear guidelines on what i can and what i cannot refund) and i would lose my job if i did. But i worry that if i reclaim they may not trust me to do my job properly!

I did that for 2 and a half years. I also posted on internet sites offering advice. However, I leaked information which got me dismissed. I still believe that I did the right thing in spite of the ultimate sacrifice and fact I remain unemployed at the moment. The bank should not take action against you if you claim your bank charges back.

That's right, rather than perhaps saying that you have to wait, they may said you are on a disciplinary for financial mismanagement and then they could sack you. Is that what you mean ;) ?
