Mum & Dad Break-Up (Financial help please)

Hi all,
My Dad have just left my mum and I really need some advice to help my mum financially. I wondered what help she can get other than the obvious tax credits. She only earned £12000 last year but on the online calculator she would only get £30 per month tax credits.
I am really worried about her losing the house that is mortgaged, so any advice on maximising her income would really be appreciated.
Thank you.
