Child tax credits a guestion please?

Hi there,
My partner and I have just received our renewal form for child tax benefits. I have a few questions I wonder if someone could clear up for me.
It asks for my income from april 08 to april 09. When I fill this in could this affect the tax credits we have already got for this period april 08 to april 09, or is it just to work out what they will pay me for year april 09 to april 2010?
thanks
Paul.

They will finalise your 2008-2009 with the figures they have asked you to provide. If your income is less than the figures they originally used, you could be due a payment from tax credits. If actual income for the 2008-2009 is more than the original figures used, but the increase is less than £25000, they will use the original figures to finalise and the increased amount to calculate your 2009-2010 award.
Please note that if you made any changes during the year the £25000 increase, disregard isn't quite so simple.0 -
Thanks for reply Sarflee. The only change we have made is my partner and I claimed as a couple when she moved in with me permanently last july 08 after the birth of our baby.

Did either of you claim before the joint claim?
Anyway I'm not sure about the finer points of tax credits, but I think if there was a single claim by either of you before the joint claim they will deal with that as one claim ie from 6/4/08 to July 08 and then the joint claim separately from July 08 to 5/4/09. Therefore I think the joint claim will follow the rules as per my post above.0
