tax credits & maternity leave!??

my head office telephoned me today to let me know that because i have been working part-time, i havent earned enough to recieve statutory maternity pay and they would send me te form to apply for maternity allowance from the government,.....

so my question is, am i still entitled to working tax credit while off on maternity leave?!? and if so, will i still get it if only gettin maternity allowance rather than stat. mat pay from my employer!??

am so confused about all these benefit rules, anybody with any knowledge shared would be very greatly received.!

thanks, carla.

    Hiya,

How many weeks have you been working with the company? It goes on weeks rather than part/full time hours.

SMP and MA is the same amount of money, so you wont loose out there, but i also dont understand what you employers mean when they say you havent earnt enough to qualify for SMP

If you were employed by your current employer before you fell pg, then you will get SMP, if you will have worked for them for over 26wks of your pregnancy, then you qualify for MA

not prying but how much do you earn. perhaps they mean you wont get the full amount, in that you have to earn over £123 a week to get full SMP/MA otherwise you get 90% of your normal pay, for the 39 weeks

I've only been with my company since mar 07. I got mat pay when I went off in dec 07 to have bubba no1. I went back part time (16hrs) in sep 08 and got up the duff again (planned! :D) and mat leave starts in 3weeks (I'm due in less then 5weeks) but they've told me I'm entitled to something in the region of 80quid a week.

Oh, and yes you can get tax credits...it goes on your income, not what kind of incmoe.

you are still entitled to WTC whilst on mat leave, as you are still technically employed
