Suspended from work

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about suspensions and disciplinaries?
My husband had a RTA in his lorry he was the suspended from work on full pay. The accident was nearly 5 weeks ago. He received a letter which told him he was suspended for being involved in an RTA with possible blame.
He went to an interview, He has been waiting for the results of the interview ever since!!
His Tacho shows he wasnt speeding had had all his breaks on time so the company cant find any fault with him so they say they are waiting for the Police report. I have read though on the ACAS website that Police cannot conduct an investigation for the employer.
How long can he remain suspended?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He is now...he joined (of course!) after the event. They are looking into the possibility of helping him though.0
