Confused about tax credits?

Hi
i have just recieved my annual renewal pack for my CTC,in November my eldest child will turn 16 but the earliest he will leave school is the following summer.
I heard that the inland revenue will stop my child benefit in november and i will need to send proof of his school leaving date so because he reaches 16 within the next year does this mean my ctc will reduce on this review?
Will i need to provide proof of when he leaves school now or in november? I am so confused and would appreciate any advice thankyou.

Hiya
I've been through this once 2 yrs ago and now doing it again. My child was 16 in february and due to leave school this Summer. You get paid child benefit up until the end Aug of the school year they are leaving.I'm pretty sure the CTC is paid till the end of Aug too. With my first son..I then notified them in the Aug that he was staying on at school 6th form, the ctc payments stopped for a month just until they had updated all the new info and we then got our ctc payments as before .
Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing..hard to explain online0 -
Thankyou for the advice, its such a confusing time! much appreciated.0

Mathy is right, went through this last year. Providing they are going on to 6th for or are reg with conexions then the CB nad CTC continue. If they then go on to Uni,the CB and CTC stops at the end of August. Some of the CTC advisors don't know this and I had to quote from subsonic on here and ask them to refer to the supervisor. I think with the 16 year olds it's more straight forward though.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
