My moviestream DVD rental - I've lost one of the DVD's

I hope they go for this. I had a look at their t&cs and it looks like they could charge you- but lets hope they use their discretion and decide against for your honesty.0

Burning a new DVD will cost them about a £1, at most (including paying for their time; the discs cost practically nothing).
And I do understand why they have to charge £15 (or however much they charge; this figure has been thrown around) for a lost disc; otherwise everyone (well, all the dishonest people anyway :P!) would start "losing" rented DVDs instead of buying them!
Nonetheless, I think there's little harm in telling them it was lost in the post, because I can see the OP has no intention of stealing DVDs and shouldn't have to pay the price for truly dishonest people misdeeds!0 -
good on you for doing the right thing, lets just hope they appreciate your honesty! :rolleyes:0

Yeah, well done for being honest! Although a lot of people here would simply say that it never arrived to avoid paying (and I guess probably me too if I'm really honest, being a poor student (can you hear the violins?? hehe!), although I'd like to think I'd do the right thing!!), I think it's really commendable that you've done the right thing!
Please keep us all updated on what their response is - want to see if they are a customer oriented company, or purely after profits!0 -
Yeah, I definetely don't regret being honest. Haven't heard anything back from them yet though - I'll keep you all updated.

Well done Crube for being honest, it is dishonest people like '*henotsowyzewun' or should that be 'Thenotsohonestwun' and *arry that push up the costs for all sorts of things for decent honest people.
It's not about 'what you can get away with' or 'working the system', it's about you knowing you did the right think.
I always say you cannot be a little bit pregnant, you either are or your not.
You are either honest or dishonest !0 -

I'm sitting here thinking, am I really such a bad person... maybe I am, I make £100s every month scamming affiliate schemes via RPoints and Quidco, but I've also helped members of this forum make £100s by directing them to the same scams (e.g. playing gambling sites at their own game in the gambling loophole section of the forum; which is dedicated to being dishonest!, as are most posts in the referral and discount code sections!).
I also save people £100s every week on https://www.haggle4me.com (admittedly earning myself 15% of their savings, but thats very little for the amount of work that goes in).
I think a little bit of dishonesty goes a long way, which is why when I get made redundant in a week I know I'll have no problems getting by (e.g. foxybingo just handed over £600, which comes straight out of their profits).
Put me down all you like, this is consumer revenge, my way!0 -
I sent a second E-Mail to them as it seemed they were ignoring my first:-
Hi, I'm just writing again as I have had no response to my previous E-Mail and it has been a few days. I notice it say's in my account that my cancellation hasn't been processed as yet as I haven't returned all disks. I have already explained that unfortunately the Wallace and Gromit disc was lost. If you take a subscription payment when I have clearly cancelled I will be contacting Mastercard to claim the money back. Many thanks.
I got this response:-
We have marked the disc as missing and removed it from your at home list.
Doesn't really tell me a lot, they really put a lot of effort into that reply eh? :rotfl: Like I said in the E-Mail, if they charge me a subscription fee when I have clearly cancelled I will be contacting Mastercard. I dunno about anyone else but I'm getting tired of the lack of effort put into dealing with their customers by these online DVD rental companies.0 -
I was with tesco DVD rental. I had 5 discs stolen by the postman (he was caught) 3 disks delivered to another address (postmans friend) and I broke one when it was delivered (it was under my makro mail and I stood on it). When I reported the breakage they told me to send back the cover and then sent out another copy. I have never been charged for any of the disks (although the postman got charged with theft).0

I think 'missing' would mean you're in the clear for that- as if its been lost in the post..?0
