Thank You Gifts Ideas....

....for the many helpers at our wedding in June!

I really want to make some gifts for the people who are, out of the kindness of their hearts, doing so much for us to help us save money on our special day. They don't want anything in way of thanks, but I wouldn't feel right, and certainly don't want to not get them anything. I think something hand- made/put together would be best as it'd be more personal and show them how much we really appreciate what they're doing for us.

My skills (or lack of!) are:

I can knit
Fairly crafty
I cannot sew (i can by hand though)
Ummmm......:o

Thank you in advance for any ideas! :A

Not sure if you are having a big wedding or not so my suggestion might be a bad one.LOL
Anyway we went to a wedding last years and they had a daytime reception as well as an evening do. At the daytime reception on all the tables in the middle were a small bunch of flowers. Under each one the bride and groom had written someone's name so that they could take the flowers home with them as a thankyou present for all their help. This was a nice idea and was mentioned when the groom made the speach.
I am sure there will be plenty more ideas if that is an unsuitable one.
    Good luck

  • Hi, thanks for the suggestion. The 'do is an MSE one :D and lots of hayfever sufferers! :D But it's a lovely idea nonetheless.

The trouble i'm having is that I know what to get family members to a certain extent, but it's the people helping with the catering that is proving to be a problem. I don't know the people well, they're friends of my fiance's family. I was thinking along the lines of hampers, as there are at least 2 families helping out, so individual presents would be much harder. I just don't know where to find baskets for them, or whether there are better ideas out there!

My initial thoughts were make something edible in advance - like fudge or toffee (something that keeps so can be done a few weeks before the wedding not in the midst of other preparations!) - nice jars with homemade labels about the date. Other alternatives on this are homemade jams, chutneys, lemon curd etc. Unfortunately this isn't a 'permanent' memento so...

Second thought - if you are green fingered and have enough time - take cuttings of a favourite houseplant and pot them up and let them establish. Buy some basic plantpots and handpaint a thankyou or date of your wedding on them.

If you still want to do hampers - these could be ideas to put in the hamper...

  • The fudge/toffee idea is brilliant, thank you!!

RustyFlange (love the name :p) Yep, have thought of that one and I'm making them for my h2b, bridesmaids, his best man and probably the mothers too (if i have time!). I had been thinking of a survival kit for the kitchen, with plasters, pain killers etc in too, but i'd like to make them something in the way of thanks too.

Rustyflange .....just had a wee look and really love what you have done .... I help run a Mums & Tots group ... could easily adapt the new Mums kit to a survival kit for the summer for all our Mums as we meet term time only!

I've recently finally cracked making fudge using this recipe and instructions from the lovely Gemma (originally posted on the card making thread)... http://handmadebygemma.blogspot.com/2009/04/fudge-by-popular-demand.html

How about making a special card to say thank you, something like this exploding box maybe... http://glitteradventure.blogspot.com/2006/11/exploding-box-class.html You could make them in your wedding colours and add personal messages to the pages. Something to keep forever.
