Hi all,
Just thought that I would metion this for any that it may help.
I have just bought my home insurance with halifax. I did the quote online, it came out quite cheap, so i then started mixing around with the limits etc. I came across a small loophole that saved me nearly £50.
The general thing for me was.
They are offering free legal cover, if you untick this box it knocks nearly £50 off your quote, you can then click it back on again and it comes on for free.
It worked for me, good luck all.

It does it for me when i change the policy exess ...
Just leave it on until you have got the rest of the quote set up as you want it then make sure you change the policy exess.
After this look at the price ... then unclick the "FREE" Legal expenses cover and it should drop the price. You can then add it for free.
It works for me ...

I don't think that would be as a result of the legal cover - thats always been free in first year
its probabaly the change in the excess as you get a few choices0 -

Except that it recalculates the change in premium when you change your excess“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
yes but that has nothing to do with the free legal cover
go for the dearer excess, your premium will be cheaper0 -
I have figured out what it is doing.
If you change things around and unhighlight the emergency cover.
Then you recalc a different excess it leaves the price of the home emergency cover on the quotation even though it is not selected.
Hence when you either
select it it doesn't add anything on to the premium then when you unselect it it reomes the price.
or if you select and unselect the free legal cover it updates the price without the emergency cover.
If that all makes sense.
So if you do a quote and you alter the excesses and home emergency cover it is worth clicking it on and off to see if it sorts it out.

Does anyone have any experience with Halifax B&C insurance, how quick are they to pay out, do they require you to pay first and claim, etc. Their quote is significantly cheaper than some others, was wondering if there's a catch.Snootchie Bootchies!0

biggest claim handling team in europe - quick call
unlimited cover too
i don't think there are any catches0 -
I have used them for the past two years wihtout problems (though I didn't have to claim!) - moved away this year as I found cheaper (Liverpool Victoria for contents and Barclays for buildings) but will no doubt be back next year!

I am with Halifax currently for B & C insurance. I have just been onto Halifax Online to get a quote for B & C insurance as i am due for renewal at the end of this month and the renewal quote i had seemed quite high. So i thought i would go onto the net and compare a few quotes. My renewal is £273. The quote given on the net was £206 and covered more than what i am covered for now. So i phoned Halifax and she said that my current insurance did not include promotions on at the moment and that i could cancel my current policy and take out a new one with Halifax on the net with the new price. I then went to confirm my quote and go onto pay for the new insurance. It then came up with the message "cannot process at this time, please phone 08000321752". Which i did. They then gave me a quote of £283. I asked why this was much higher and she just said because it is, thats the lowest she can get it. I then went onto Halifax again and the quote this time was the same as the phone quote. So all in all, i think they are a bit of a rip off. I have had no problems with them previously but the experience with this makes me slightly dubious about renewing with them again!!!!0
