Another ESA Question

Can anybody help me please.....

I've been receiving the contribution based ESA for about three months as I've been off sick for around nine months in total. I've now received a letter telling me to phone a number within two days to fix up a time for a medical.

Although three GPs and a consultant appointed by my employers have all signed me off sick from my current job, somehow I doubt I would be judged unfit for any kind of work at all. I'm currently receiving half salary.

My question is this...

What will happen if I simply ignore this letter. presumably eventually the ESA will be reduced or stopped. But what is the process / timescale?

Presumably it will be stopped anyway if they feel I an fit enough to do some mundane job?

Thanks

If you ignore the letter your benefit will eventually be stopped. I am not sure of the timescales or if they will write to you again or not about booking an appointment.

If you do not score 15 points or more in a medical (if you attend) your ESA will be stopped.

Presumably they must chase by letter or phone at least once otherwise how do they know I've got the letter?

What are "points" in this context?

Can one appeal a decision to sting it out a bit longer?

I would guess if you do not reply that they will book an appointment for you anyway, but of course then you wont have the date and time you want.

In the medical assessment you are awarded points for the different descriptors that are covered if they apply to you.

If you do not attend the medical your benefit will be stopped but you do have the right of appeal.

I would just go ahead and make the appointment. If you fail then you can appeal the decision and it will be paid at £60.50.
