What happens in a job seekers allowance phone call

Hello

A few days ago i wrote on here about job seekers allowance

My son has now made his application online and he is waiting for them to call him, they said it could be a 40 minute call.

What kind of thing should he expect in the call?

Cheers

I phoned them last week and it took 1/2 hour, they just went through loads questions about my income, employment history etc.

Then I had to go into the JCP the next day for an interview which took another hour. they went through the same questionnaire I answered the day before and then had a chat about my qualifications and experience and what kind of work I was looking for.
    :p
  • I suppose it will be a short phone call then as he hasnt had a job yet and so no income.

No, they went htrough LOADS of completely irrelevant questions (well they were irrelevant to me, lol) like did I have income from a pension, did I receive any income from savings bonds, did I receive any war pension, have I got any savings products, do I receive an allowance for caring for anyone etc etc

To be honest, it sounded very much like they were reading from a script and I'm guessing that everyone will be asked the same questions, regardless of whether they have worked previously or not.

It is not irrelevant as they are checking you do not have any form of income that would affect your benefits.

I am aware of that - that is why I said that they are irrelevant to me. I understand that they need to check all possible sources of income.

It does seem a bit pointless when you tell them that you have no children and then they go on to ask whether you receive any child benefit? That I have never been married and they ask if I receive a widows pension? That I live alone and then they ask if I receive money from a lodger or other person living with me?

I objected to having to provide my husband's full details including NI number - it was a sole claim and nothing to do with him!
