Help - worried my credit rating has been affected?

Story - OH and I have 2 credit cards each (both 0%). In January paid 2 months by mistake on both cards (february payment went through on January's bill). Realising this, I paid February payment again on my card, but forgot to do it on my OH's. Anyway he received a phone call the other day saying that no payment had been made since January. Realising this I made an extra payment paying off the arrears.

Have today received a letter from the Collection Department. Even though I have paid of the arrears I am worried that this missed payment will affect my OH's credit rating. I have never missed a payment in my life on anything I owe - and in fact don't feel that I missed this payment as my statement shows 2 amounts being paid in!!

Can anyone put my mind at rest and let me know if indeed my OH's credit rating is damaged?

It's possible the collection dept. fired off the letter before the payment you made went through.

Call CS to clarify everythings fine and dandy and to set your mind at rest ;)

The worset that would happen is they'd apply a late payment record on your OH's credit report, which will fall off the credit report after 12 months (AFAIK).

    On a positive note:
Some companies sometimes don't reflect late/missed payments in your credit report if you manage to pay it before they actually write it to your credit report.
So their's a good chance it's not been written to your OH's credit report (with luck).

Regardless of you paying twice in that statement period this will not effect your future payments that are required on a monthly basis. At least the minimum payment has to be made by the due date in any given statement period.

    Hope this helps.

Most cards provide reports to Experian at month end. If OH's card went 1 down very early in the month and it was resolved immediately, they would be showing 0 at both month ends.

When I last saw my experian report, it showed 24 months of performance data. If your records are otherwise unblemished, doubt you would see much impact.

Experian's records show info over the past 36 months, so it will take 3 years to come off. 1 alone isnt the end of the world
