Money for a suit (etc) from the JobCentre?

I had a 6 month interview at the JobCentre on Thursday, and the woman told me that they can give me money to get anything that I may need for a job interview.
I'm thinking of asking for help to get a suit, as the one I have is pretty shabby.
How do I go about getting the money? How much would they give me, and do I pay it back once in employment?

No, they give you vouchers (for Top Shop I think) to the value of a suit, and you don't have to repay them.
For interview travel expenses, you MUST fill in a form before the interview, and then you can claim the money back afterwards.0 -
I don't think you'll get cash upfront, I reckon you'll either have to buy it yourself and they will reimburse you (like shell has said), or you will receive a voucher of some kind to a certain value to spend in a certain store or stores.
When I went back to work a couple of years ago, I was told they would help for clothing for my job. They told me to buy what I needed and then go in with the receipts to get the money back.
I didn't bother, I was just happy to have a job!

Thanks guys.
Will they only give out the vouchers if you have an interview lined up?0 -
The money comes out of the Advisor Discretionary Fund - if you're a man you can only go to Burtons and girls have to go to Top Shop, they will even specify what you can get as well.0

It certainly used to be the case - it wasn't cash but vouchers for the Burton Group.0 -

Not being funny, but what if you're larger than average sizes - those shops are no good are they?!

my jobcentre gives out cash if you dont look like most of the scallywags who go in there.
they even paid £300 for some whites and knives for me for when i return to work shortly, but that much had to go through the manager.0
