Ex Applies for Bank Account at MY Address!

Hiya...

Don't know if this is the right place to put this, but here goes anyway.

This morning a letter arrived at my address from HBOS, stating that my now-divorced ex-wife had failed in her application to open a bank account. It was addressed to her, but to my home address. The ex is still in the old matrimonial home.

My query is ... what would be a motive to do this? And, has anything illegal been done? Finally, could this have an impact on me?

Hope some wise worthy here could help out with this one. Thanks in :T advance.

Return the letter to the bank saying that she has never lived at your address and give them her real address.

Hi ... thanx for that. I phoned the bank, and told them that she didn't live here. I offered them her address, but they didn't want it, as they siad the matter was being dealt with.

I know that she has applied for bankruptcy, will the bank link my address to her now, and will I be black marked?

I just seems such an odd thing to do.

I'm glad you rang the bank, i wouldn't want my ex using my address for his finances.

Gives you an insight tho if she is fraudulently using your address, looks like she has debt at her own address.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?

I would do a credit check on yourself, just to be sure. If anything does come up, you can notify the relevant companies. Also, keep an eye on the local paper for the bankrupcty notice.

OK just quickly as on my way to work :)

Addresses can't be blacklisted - the only way you can be linked to your ex in ANY way is if the two of you have any financial products together - ie mortgage, loan, bankaccount etc. If for any reason your files have been linked then it's easy to get them seperated - get a copy of your credit file from all 3 credit ref agencies to check and if there are any "associations" then get them removed - easy peasy :)
You can also put a notice on your address to alert anyone that someone has attempted in the past to get credit at that address who didn't actually live there - it stops any "auto" approvals going through. Yours should still go through but any applications you make will flag up and be checked manually to ensure it's really you if you see what I mean?
As you're not applying for joint accounts with your ex I wouldn't fret too much - let her mess up her own finances :)
