I got a wooden cart with building bricks from Mothercare for £22, long lasting and educational and not plastic!

How about a classic hardbacked book each? Write something personal to each child inside.

Money box with a premium bond to go with it? - they do silver ones as christening gifts, if you want something christeningy, or just a nice looking one - local jewellers, hinds, that sort of place.

(And to be honest, the parents should thank you for buying a gift, not start specifying what you're allowed to buy. How ungrateful can you get!)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You could set up a savings account for each of them and put a few quid a month in it, tell their parents they can have it when they turn 18. That way you don't have to lay out a lot of money right now and they will get something that is beneficial to them in the long term. There are only so many Peter Rabbit bowls and money boxes a baby needs! ;)

Minimum premium bond is £100

How about bibles? You can get special christening ones.

Twins are like bookends... the Noah's ark ones have biblical hint and they are long lasting and something as an adult you could look back at with nostalgia...

Terramundi pots make good christening presents, ideal for moneysaving.

You can also get prayer books, in white, quite inexpensively.

Can anyone remember how much it is to name a star now? I bought a toy which included a voucher to name the star quite inexpensively.

Try looking in a local Christian bookshop - they have all sorts of things that need not cost a lot and are fitting for a godparent.

Also, I just looked on ebay. Under Baby - Christening Gifts with the filters for UK only, add shop inventory, under £10 I found 7186 entries. A lot of them were unsuitable but there was stuff like this 130296983455 which is a personalised bracelet and also there are money boxes.

National Savings Certificates are minimum £25 I think.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the day.

Really Sorry for above post - more abrupt than I meant, am in haste, just that I went through those gift sections on ebay for inspiration, and I found it helpful, choosing right Christening present is a nightmare and a maze so good luck.

Hope you have a good day.

Also - willow tree ornaments, gorgeous.
