old TV - shall i claim

I have a standard 28" sony tv which is approx 8 years old. It cost around £700. Over the weekend i was moving the furniture and dropped this very heavy tv. it still works but goes off after a while. probably dislocated or damaged something inside. have rang a tv repairer but they are asking £60 just to check it.

i am thinking of claiming it through my insurance. the excess is around £50. considering that nowadays you can only get budget normal tv because the widescreen is the norm is it worthwhile me claiming. what will they give in replacement? a normal or a widescreen?

just wondering if anyone had this experience before
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • Does your policy cover accidental damage? Is it new for old? Have you spoken to any other TV repairers - £60 just to tell you what's wrong with it seems a bit over the top, they'd go out of business in Yorkshire !
