Dishonest recruitment agent???

I've got myself signed up with a few recruitment agencies around my area and I'm not sure in how to deal with one of them.
I got my first interview set up by one of them ( lets call then H) and one speaking to one of the other agencies ( lets call them W) about other possibilities I happened to mention the interview that I had through the other agent. W told me they had that client on their books also but hadn't thought about putting me forward for that one, I stupidly didn't ask why not.

I've gone in to see H today before I went to my interview and was told that the person interviewing me had been let down by people living in my city before because of the amount of travel involved but I was ok because I live outside the city so I was closer to the motorway needed to get me there. I was then told that the client I had the interview with had been contact by W saying they would like to put me forward for the job but they knew I'd already been submitted by another agent but the reason they didn't consider me was because I lived in this city and they didn't think I would like to travel that far!!! I have never once said I wouldn't travel, I know I have actually mentioned to them that I would be happy to travel for the right job. Because of this they were originally looking to cancel my interview until H talked them out of it! Not only could I have lost my interview (which are few and far between in todays market), but the recruitment agent could have lost this company as a client for sending inappropriate candidates.

So I 'm wondering basically what you would all do about this agent? Would you call them and query their behaviour?

If you query / challenge anything with an agency, they will just blacklist you and not put you forward for any more roles. I'm sure there are lots of really good agencies out there, but I find it best to assume that they may well be lying, and take all promises from them with a pinch of salt.

Good luck with your job hunt.

Being as you should never have mentioned to the other agency that you had applied for a vacancy in so much detail that they could then go and put clients for ward for it themselves? I would keep quiet...
There is already going to be an almighty fight if both have put you forward for the job and you get it - if the original company find out then they can actually come after YOU for any loss of fees if company number 2 get the commission as number 1 were the ones to refer you originally... I'd stay very very very very quiet!

Lol. I read this title and thought 'show me an honest one'. - All Recruitment agencies are bent, 'Crooked as a dog's hind leg'.

Don't take it personally, just make sure you get one up on the agencies **** them it's not they actually do anything for the commission except deal out a load useless advice for interview 'tactics' that doesn’t work normally, and then drop you a like a stone if you’re unsuccessful in an interview, or in their words ‘put you on the back-burner’ until a suitable vacancy resurfaces.

Which basically means = ‘screw you’ we’ll find someone else to exploit for commission and pretend it isn’t about ‘sales’ figures, when we all know it's about balancing the books to keep their jobs in recruitment and most importantly being completely incompetent and generally causing a load of hassle & dismay.

'Recruitment Agencies' bigger con than a pyramid scheme if you ask me.
  • Mrs.Tine I didn't actually mention the name of the company I had the interview with, I discribed the job role to W (who didn't refer me first, please re-read my OP) because they kept offering me roles that I wasn't interested in so I was giving them something to go by. On discribing the role they mentioned the company name and I'm not very good at covering things up obviously.
At the time of this discussion I already had the interview set up through H so there is not going to be any confussion over who gets the commision from it.
From what I understand W doesn't have a very good reputation for honest in the area and have been known for using dirty tactics in the past.
