child tax credit question

Hi,
I have a question about child tax credit and need a bit of help!
We have a baby and I am still on mat leave (both my husband and I work full time). We receieve child tax credit of £50 for 2 months then it goes to £9 a month, when I no longer recieve any mat pay...good timing!
We don't earn mega wages and if I return to work full time we won't have anything left ater paying for childcare as this figure has been worked out on my husband's and my full time working wages.
My question is: if I have a career break say for a couple of years (unpaid) so we have no childcare costs, will our child tax credit increase with just my husband's salary?
we have never claimed anything before and don't know how this system works. I didn't want to call the tax credit people until I know a bit about what i want to know IYSWIM.
thanks in advance.

apparently not
"you'll have to tighten your belts"
" I cant believe you didnt do the maths BEFORE having a baby"
These are the responces to the same question that i posted yesterday0 -
sorry to hear about your unhelpful replies yesterday.
lets hope that we get some advice to help us both today.0 -
Play around with the https://www.entitledto.com site with different figures for wages, working hours, childcare and so on.
Its a guideline so only a rough estimate, but it may help a bit more in letting you know what you may get if you stay at home or returned to work.
But to be honest, with one child its not really a lot. Make sure that you let tax credits office know when your maternity pay runs out and your income figures are accurate (having an overpayment is the worst thing - not suggesting there will be one, but you need to pre-empt the possibility!)0
