DLA appeal help please

I put in appeal when I was told that I couldn't claim DLA and they have finally wrote saying that the appeal has been adjourned while they get more information from my doctor and that I must be present at the next meeting.
I would just like some info on what to expect at this meeting please and if there is anything I should know and whether this means it is good or not to actually be present.
I suffer with crushed discs in my back and however much people tell me to get exercise to help I can not walk far without a burning pain and I have to sit down to ease the pain. I am going to speak with my doc tomorrow in the hope that she will back me up.
 Money Talks ...
but all mine ever says is Goodbye!

  • I would say that it's better you turn up. It looks better & as bad as this sounds, it'd be good for them to see just how painful & difficult your condition is,
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]
  • I suppose I worry because I know a lot of people who get this just because they use a stick which, I should use when in pain but just can not bring myself to use it and prefer to hobble about or lean on hubby or, just stay in when in pain so when people see me I suppose I must look ok.

  • Hello spenderblender,

More appeals are successful if you attend in person, so it's in your best interest to do so.
Here is a link to the benefits now website that explains what to expect.
    http://www.benefitsnow.co.uk/appeal/appealtribunal.asp

At my son's tribunal, I was asked lots of questions from the panel, they had clearly read all the information I had provided in support of my son's claim.

There are several organisations that can help you with the tribunal process.
There is Welfare Rights, that are part of your county council, there is the CAB, and also Dial.
    http://www.dialuk.info

They can attend with you, but it will be up to you to answer the tribunal's questions.

You will have the opportunity to state your case, and why you believe you should be entitled to DLA. Keep to the point and don't stray, keep factual.

It is stressful, but it is important, and it's your opportunity to put your case.

    Good Luck,

The DWP are very specific in the information they are looking for in order to agree claims.

Make sure your answers and information you provide are specific about things like

Can you sit down/get up without help how long can you sit for before pain
Can you get into/out of bed without help
Ditto put socks and shoes on
    wash and dress yourself
    etc

    Also

Can you cook/clean/iron without help - for how long before you need to sit down
Can you walk, if so how far before sitting down or resting etc etc

Basically be very specific about all aspects of how your disability affects you and assistance you need for day to day tasks (whether or not you recieve that assistance)
