Looking for temporary work

Hi everyone!
I'm due to start a new job in August, however I'm a bit stuck about what to do in the meantime. I could really do with the money from a temporary job, but so far haven't had much luck with agencies. What is the best way to deal with this? Is it worth telling them I'll do pretty much anything until August (which I probably will to be honest), or will that just make me look too desperate? And is there anywhere else I could look, I'm in Leeds at the moment if that makes any difference.
Thanks for your help!

You've got to keep on top of these agencies - call them at least every other day asking if anything's come in.
You'll find they'll give you the worst jobs in the world to start with, but if you stick it out they'll gradually move you up the list a bit for the better positions...0 -
If you live in a town/city, I find that it is sometimes a good idea to say you have no transport. They might only offer you work about 20 miles away (costing you petrol expenses) for perhaps assignments for only 1 or 2 days.
They naturally want to give all local work to people with no transport.0 -

Not true at all.
Bantamjim. It is worth keeping in touch, but once a week is fine. The problem at the minute is there is very little temporary work around and in the current climate, people who would never have considered temping before, will, meaning the candidate pool has doubled and the temp work halved.
If you are willing to do anything, then tell them that. We as an agency don't dish out 'rubbish' jobs to new candidates, it's about matching the right candidate to the right job. I've had fantastic candidates walk through the door and put them straight into a job, even over regular temps because they seemed like the right person for the role.
Have the right attitude and be reliable once you get a job and that will get you every bit of work they can offer you.

Thanks guys!
andy - I'd be relying on public transport anyway, so that wouldn't be a problem for me personally. I guess I should be registered at as many agencies as possible then, just to give myself as much chance as possible of getting something. Calling once or twice a week makes sense to me too, I don't want to be pestering them too much, but still want to be at the front of their minds when something suitable does come up, right?0 -
Sorry But I have to disagree with you !Not true at all.

If by a remote possibility I get offered work by an agency , 90% of the time it is not in my own town due to the fact I have transport. First question agency staff always ask me -"Do you drive". All the temp local employment in my own town is taken up by the Eastern Europeans as the majority obviously do not have any transport just arriving into the UK. Any new agencies that I do register with I state that I do not have transport as I know that I have more chance of seeking local work !0
