Stuffing for cushions - use old pillows.

Just wanted to share this. Before rushing out and buying an inner cushion for a cover I am making. I realised that I have loads of spare pillows, that can be washed, opened and the thin cotton covers that were already on them used to make the inner cushion liner. I will chop up the stuffing to make my square cushion plumper. I suppose you could do this with old quilts too.

I have often done this in the
    past too especially if your
    making a cushion thats not
    the normal square shape
    I bought a teatowel and
thought it was far too nice to
use drying dishes so I made it
into a cushion cover and like you
used one of the pillows that has
gone all flat as a cushion to fit
    inside.
It looks really nice and very little
sewing too will definatly make another
if I spot something that catches my eye

Wow!!. That is lush. I can't believe a bag of stuffing was going to cost a fiver.

Where did you get that teatowel. I couldn't bear the thought of drying up with it either:D

I bought the teatowel in a gift shop
    its a Kath Kidston one,imagine what a
cushion from there would cost I sewed
a seam either side and attached two small
pieces of velcro as a fastener.

I have my eyes on another at present
its in Paperchase a white teatowel
with cup cakes printed on it

Very sensible. When I was making sock monkeys for Christmas I went to buy stuffing and it was €5 for a small bag. I was in Ikea and they had enormous cushions on sale for €1.49, so I bought one of those and pillaged its insides.

I hadn't thought of using the cushion fabric, but I'll use it for something, thanks!

Here is my lovely cushion. I am interested in that cupcake teatowel and will be looking in paperchase. For my DD I will be doing her room in sort of gingham/folk/ hearts/but a cupcake cushion will be lovely for her bed.

Can I just add that when you cut open old pillows, if you very patiently pick apart all of the old polyester stuffing, it does regenerate itself as the fibres rip apart. It makes me think that I could really open all of my old pillows instead of chucking them, regenerate the stuffing and sling them back on the beds. I must go through at least 8 per year (on all beds). Errrm this has possibly saved me money as well in that sense as well.:rotfl:

another tip too if you are making stuffed toys
and cushions and are concerned about the filling
being safe for babies & small children.
If you dont already own anything baby related
have a look in your local charity shop for baby
pillows, cot bumpers and quilts just take out
the filling and use that. The filling in them is
always safe to use and lots of this type of
thing ends up in charity shops often in new
    or almost new condition.
