I really don't know how I managed to get in the mess I have again. It isn't the first time I've got into a lot of debt but the past couple of times I've moved house and managed to pay the debt off with spare equity. It was just hiding things and I would go back on my spending/drinking/smoking spree. I've had various bouts of depression which haven't helped and make me reckless with money. My LBM came about two weeks ago after I heavy weekend and left myself with not enough money for mortgage and bills - I'd been using payday loans for the past couple of months and was struggling to get by but wanted to manage it myself.
I'd just got to the stage where I couldn't bury my head in the sand any more. Firstly I ended up talking to an IVA company and was tempted to go with that. However, I read Martins info on IVA's and it specified that it wasn't necessarily for everyone and advise to look at CCCS or the Debt Helpline. I'd tried the debt helpline before but partly through shame I didn't go ahead with it (wish I had) So tried CCCS this time who advised a DMP.
I'm currently in the stage of getting this set up and on the first step to a debt free life :T - don't want no more credit cards

So I've been doing a spending diary for about the past 5 months or so and plan to keep it up. However, what I really need to do is analyse it and identify patterns and habits which I can break to save more cash and get the debt paid back quicker. The cigs and alcohol are going so that should make a large dent in things

Hi!
Sounds like you are well on track with maintaining your spending diary for so long :T I found it really helpful analysing my bank statements and thinking about how much I was spending on food etc. on an annual basis, really sharpened up since.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Also, gonna have a look around the income increasing section. I've already signed up for a few panels - Lightspeed etc. To paraphrase "I can feel a plan coming together"
