Hi there my dad had a heart attack 3 years ago he is 62. he went back to work but recently he has been finding things increasingly difficult and is thinking about going on the sick but he has no idea what his options are he has no pension as he has been self employed all his life my mother is also due to retire in april and she will have a small pension of around 400 pounds a month this will obviously not be enough to make ends meet as they still have mortgage anyone know what his options could be ?

If he is not fit to work he can claim the Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). He will need a sick note from his Doctor to start his claim.
  • There is also pension credits but they do take other income into consideration.

    Do they have any savings?

    Does your dad claim dla?
