Not too sure what your problem is. You are getting 942kbs which is near enough 1mb, which is the package you are on.
. Also it was at 11.30 at night which I think is still within their peak time when more users are on line.
Until recently I was on the Tiscali 1mb package and was getting around 980kbs at best and about 350kbs at worst.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I suppose I should have more clearly specified the problem. They are twofold:
1. Some times I lose connection, mostly for a few seconds, sometimes for a few minutes.
2. I've started watching footy on t'Internet (myp2p.eu) and only ever see two stars from a maximum of 5 for my connection. When watching through something like sopcast which gives a % connection I get from 0 to best of @ 60% and I get a poor picture which stops and starts.
I suspect that my poxy 1MB package is perhaps to blame but don't know and would welcome any thoughts of how to resolve and recommendations for better ISP deals if indicated.
Many thanks :-)0 -
Firstly, what do Tiscali say is the maximum speed your line can support? If you're a long way from the exchange then switching ISP's won't really help, as the local loop will be the same. Streaming video will struggle a bit over a 1MB connection I think. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

See if you can get O2 or Be, or Cable or Fibre. Choose one of them. Migrate to one of them.0

Or you can check your potential line speed on:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php
But bear in mind this is based on theoretical distance from the exchange and so not totally accurate. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks Macman, I am less than 1km from an exchange and ADSL is available ~6.5mbps. ADSL2 and cable are not available. Anyone recommend a good ISP to make the most of my available line speed?
Thanks all :-)0 -
Well you could just upgrade your Tiscali service to the up to 8MBps one-that is all they currently offer. Or go to samknows again and see which ISP's are available on LLU-look for 'LLU Operators' list. These are most likely to give you the best deals.
If o2 is available on LLU I would have a look at that, £12.23 for the standard service, or £7.34 if you have an o2 contract or PAYG mobile in the house. Good CS, free 24/7 support, wireless router, first month free.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
o2 does a good service , got a good deal on mine0

Be careful if you upgrade, you will start a new contract 0f 12months or more so check on this first, you may want to leave before the end of the contract but you will be liable for the cost of the remaining months.0
