books please Jim

Hi All,

Saw a website last night, basically selling old titles at hugely reduced prices.

Eg. a book RRP £18, selling for £2.

The price they are selling for isnt anywhere on the book, so I got thinking about whether its worth buying some books, and selling them above the price I bought them for.

Any thoughts

a. is this a decent idea
&
b. where to sell ? (car boots etc)

Cheers all.
Smile!

  • I've sold some hardbacks on ebay. Postage made it a waste of time and effort as very little profit in it.

  • I agree with Me Myself, very diificult to make any money on books on eBay unless you have first edition or signed copies that collectors maybe interested in.
Too many people are selling their books as soon as they have finished them so buyers can pick them up very cheaply.

you'd be better off selling them on amazon most times

if you can get your hands on the isbn's then you can check in advance if they're worth your while ;)

Like Holsale says using the isbn it iis easy to check what sort of prices are being offered on Amazon. Non fiction seems to go better for me on both ebay and Amazon, but not 'coffee' table books or mass produced books made up mainly of photos. My best sellers have been obscure titles about war or politics or history.

Car boots are good for buying but not for selling as people expect things to be really cheap.

Book fairs can be fun, expensive to buy as dealers are often prepared to hold a book for years and so won't reduce their prices.
