Bus pass medium rate DLA

My 14 yr old son gets medium rate disability living allowance as he needs someone with him.Is he entitled to a free bus pass - and also me as his carer?
Does it differ from each Transport Authority region to region?

  • Hello tali,

Depending on your council, or who administers the scheme in your area, the application form usually has a section to be filled in by your GP to confirm the disability, and there is a further section for your GP to sign for the carers pass.

  • As muchie says its different in each area, for example we are in greater manchester i get mid rate care dla and low mob.but get the free pass due to my epilepsy not my dla,mrs woodbine gets higher mob. but no free pass.
Any large bus station should have the details for your area plus the forms needed, which are quite simple
  • As already stated it depends upon the local authority.

I live in Edinburgh and my daughter was able to get one because she is on Lower Rate Mobility - it seems a lot of councils base their decisions on the Mobility component as opposed to the Care one.
