Metered Water - Saving Tip

This has saved me around £150 per year in metered water charges and could save others, particularly with older properties. After switching off all water usage in my home I found I was leaking water from the meter to my home. The pipe could be as old as house which was built in 1935. I found the water pressure was very high. By closing the stop valve on the meter by maybe 95 percent I still had a high pressure supply but the leakage has reduced to zero. I calculate this will save me around £150 per year. I suspect part of problem is that in recent years Three Valley Water has increased the local supply pressure, thereby increasing leakage from my old (lead ?), supply pipe.

I understand that if the pipe does need to be replaced, there are systems which avoid your front garden having to be dug up, thereby reducing cost of sorting the pipe.

However worth trying the pressure reduction first.
