I know a lot of people do not agree with this but I'd like to try it for a while on ebay.
Im looking to do something like a daily tips (betting) service at around £2.50 a day.
I've had quite a bit of success over recent weeks and want to sell on my tips if possible, I see a lot of people do it on ebay and I'd like to give it a go, if it doesnt work out then fair enough, at least i'd tried!
The format I want to do is...
I make my predictions in the morning, around 7/8am then I'll upload them to a webpage somewhere. Then I plan to advertise it on ebay at a 'buy it now' price of £2.50 (maybe cheaper, i'll see how successful it is first!) When a person buys, somehow the transaction gives them a link to the exact web address. The section on ebay will obviously not exceed the start time of the bet itself. i.e. if the bet is a horse in a 2.10 at lingfield, 'bidding' will end an hour before hand, at around 1pm
Is this sort of thing possible? I know theres people going 'tut tut' and that I shouldnt be selling this sort of thing on ebay but I'd like to try it. Im a 100% legitmate and honest about this - Im not going to mess anyone around.
If anyone can give me geniuine help on how to set this sort of thing up, it would be much appriciated as Im unfamilar with ebay other than buying the odd DVD off it!
Cheers,
Mark

Firstly the minimum listing time you have is 1 day, so your idea might not work within that timeframe.
Secondly Ebay are surprisingly moral and all sorts of lottery, bingo, or raffle type auctions are banned. Whilst I can find nothing specific that would ban betting tips there are several terms and conditions it may break, for instance http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/reviewsandguides/advertising.html
where it says:
Members may not advertise to buy, sell or trade any product or service outside of eBay in an eBay review or guide..
More importantly you will have a problem with payment. Paypal is your only option if you want the BIN (Buy it now ) with immediate payment option, and paypal cannot be used for any form of gambling, so they will close you down. Anyway, even if they didn't catch you paypal require proof of delivery via an online trackable method which is narrowly defined. You would therefore need to send everyone who bids a recorded delivery letter just to avoid chargebacks when your tips don't come in.
This is a potential nightmare, your only option is to try a betting forum of something similair that allow adverts for services, but then you would still have to find a satisfactory payment method.

forget it........the first punter who doesn't win ( assuming you even get your system onto eBay ) will let them know you're running an illegal ( in eBay's terms ) operation....and they'll close you down pronto.
I don't even know if you need to be licenced to offer this service in the first place...... but I'll give you a forecast....... it's a non-runner ;-)

I'm not a gambler although I occasionally go to the dogs (or so I have been told  ) but it does seem to me that if anyone was that good at predicting winners then wouldn't they be keeping it to themselves? Surely if you could win more than odds suggest then the few pounds you might get in from selling tips would be far outweighed by your winnings.
Also, as someone who likes statistics the more people who bet the same horses, the lower the odds, so your own profit is reduced.

thanks so far guys for the advice. Im probably going to give it a go anyway as so many people seem to be 'getting away with it' on ebay already, and the majority with a lot of positive feedback. The minimum day listing thing could be a problem though.
Also, im a broke student and whilst I'd love to make money from gambling, I waste an awful lot too, hence why I'll try and take any small opportunity I can to make a little extra
I take it would be best to set up a new ebay account and paypal account for this 'venture'? Can you have more than one paypal account registered to an individual card?0 -

I wouldn't use that in your advertising if I were you. It doesn't exactly say much for your ability to pick winners.0 -

You need different bank details for each paypal account and I wouldn't risk using your current one as you will get caught and your account suspended. Also, as I mentioned above how are you going to get round the problem of chargebacks?
For every one person you see 'getting away with it' on ebay you can bet (no pun intended, or at least I don't think so :T ) that 5 others have already been suspended. In fact it is your competitors who you need to watch as they are the ones most likely to turn you in.

as i said Ive only ever bought dvds off ebay, so im not familar with selling any sort of products. what are chargebacks? I thought using paypal it was simply they 'buy' the product and i receive the money? sorry for the naivity?0

I don't think you would be covered by paypals seller protection with sending an email or link. I think you have to send something which is trackable.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0

carrie483 is absolutely correct. Paypal require something physical to be sent with proof of delivery (note proof of delivery not posting) to avoid a chargeback. So whilst it is unlikely it is entirely feasible that a disgruntled buyer will chargeback their money on the basis that the product did not arrive (ie they lost using your tips) and unless you can show Royal Mail tracking that has been signed for at the destination you will lose and the buyer will get their money back.
You would be in a Catch 22 situation as if you tried to defend the claim on the basis you were just sending a link to a web page for betting tips your account would very likely be suspended.
You say you are a penniless student but I would urge you very strongly to think this through. It isn't going to be easy money and if you lose your ebay account you cannot just open another one when you are older and want to sell a few bits and pieces.
