I'm looking for a new laptop at the moment. I've been searching on the web and have come across the phrases 'Intel Core 2 Duo' and 'Dual Core'. Are they the same or is one better than the other?

Easiest way to look at it - Core 2 duo is better than Dual Core. They are newer and have more 'cache'.0
