Should I be able to just use my SKY remote control, as I have to use my TV remote control to swith the tv on and off. If I press TV on my SKY remote, nothing happens.
On the HD box the installer used the scart leads that were already connected to the TV, should he have used new leads?

The installer should have programmed your Sky remote to control your TV.
Have a look at the instruction manual it will tell you how to use the appropriate code to do this.
If you have had a Sky+Hi Definition box he should have used an HDMI cable, assuming you have an HD ready TV.
He should also have demonstrated the setup to you before leaving.
Scart leads are much of a muchness although if you have a large screen then paying a bit more will show some improvement. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I was at work when the installer came and it was my daughter who ordered sky. She has a HD ready tv in her bedroom which is what the HD box is connected to. She left him to it downstairs to connect my normal sky box. He has connected a scart lead to my tv as I did not have anything (dvd etc) already connected to my tv.0

so, if you have a normal sky box, connected to a tv, it should be connected via scart..
if your daughter has a sky hd box, that should be connected via HDMI,
IMO, this isn't the issue, you're asking about pairing your remote to your tv, so what we need is the make of your tv, that you want the sky remote to control. Some small brands of tvs may not work, but most major brands are supported.

I typed in 0156 as per page 35 of the manual. It now switches off the tv onto standby, but it will not switch on the tv from standby, I have to still use the tv remote.
TV model is 24W33B0 -
press the TV button on the remote then try pressing a number button instead of pressing the power button. Trouble is this may turn your TV on in tuner mode whereas you will want the source to be ext 1 or 2 I would imagine. If that works then perhaps leaving the RC in TV mode and trying to find the source function that switches the input may be useful. For example on a samsung the select button cycles through the inputs.0

I don't understand all that, but it's switching it on now by pressing a number.0 -
On a Sky remote press TV to switch over to tv mode then
press "help" button and it shows your AV list select the one you want.0 -
