have just noticed that in control panel/network and internet/ network and sharing center it is having a problem connecting laptop to main pc to internet. it is saying :
access : local only
connection : unidentified network
i think this is where the problem is, any ideas thanks0 -
Looks like those odd files were the cause of the problem from the start. As they embedded themselves into windows you now need to REPAIR it.
Download toms file onto another computer and save to a USB stick or cd or whatever then run it on your computer:idea:0 -
just phoned the virgin/ntl helpline and after a few checks ive been told that its probably my wireless card in lappy thats the problem - is there any way i can check the settings for this?0

nibs ~
No disrespect but virgin 'techies' tend to not have a clue what theyre on about.
You need to repair windows ~ nothing else is going to fix this
files were deleted and THATS when the main problem occured. So whatever they effected needs repairing:idea:0 -
no I expect its the winsock thats corrupted ,download this on a USB stick or CD and run on the faulty Laptop

LSP-Fix is a free Windows utility to repair a loss of Internet access associated with certain types of software. This type of software, known as a Layered Service Provider or LSP, typically handles low-level Internet-related tasks, and data is passed through a chain of these programs on its way to and from the Internet. However, due to bugs in the LSP software or deletion of the software, this chain can get broken, causing the Internet connection to become inaccessible.Ex forum ambassador
