Which DVD Recorder do I get?

I want a DVD recorder and wanted to know which one would be best to get, ideally I wanted one with a hard drive - how much do I need? Also how much is it to get one with freeview? If I get one without can I still record freeview? Do they work like videos in that you can set them to record and they'll do it automatically? So many questions so little time!!!
2p off is still 2p off!

having just recently bought one myself.
I got an LG RH7500 (i think)
which records DVD + and - RW
80gb harddisk gives approx 41 hours recording.
4 AV sockets - 2 scart at back, 1 3 cable (red/yello/white) and back, 1 at front, svideo at back.......
i have played a little, and found it is very good.
took a little while to get it rigged up, mainly due to the way my videos/cable box/tv are connected to get the best picture
tv recording is as good as video recording.
havent done any timeshifting (like sky plus), ie pause/record tv whilst you answer the phone, then go back and continue watching from where you paused it, whilst it is still recording.......
I paid £185 from currys, got free delivery code from this website, and used a discount code via work and cashback through linemypocket
there was a couple of alternatives, one was a liteon, the other was a panasonic.
it does pay to look aroundsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

We bought this one here a few months back now. I am not the technical one in the household  but my o/h researched it and he thinks its the best. This forum seems to be the best place for answers
It does change the way we watch tv. We didn't have a video set up so only watched the programmes that were on while we were sat in front of it! Now I get to see all the programmes that are on past my bedtime :O and I can pause the show when I want a cup of tea/loo break and can then fast forward through all the annoying adverts. Before we got it, I didn't realise what I was missing ~ now I have one I would hate to go back to not having it :rotfl:“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Forgot to say ~ the one we bought has built in Freeview. Not sure how it works with a Freeview box separate.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

I'm thinking of getting the Panasonic DMRES20D - this is a dvd recorder that can timeslip (with DVDRAM disks).
Its also got the benefit of freeview.
Its approx 150 if searched through kelkoo.co.uk etc.
There is also a multi region version available for a few pounds more.
Next day delivery with one of the companies.
I just need to find a day when I know I'll be off work the next day.
The Panny DMRES10 gets excellent reviews - this is the model without freeview and is approx 50 cheaper.

Actually use pricerunner.co.uk.
123electricalsforme seem to be the cheapest and have good reviews of their service.
This is who I am thinking of getting mine with - Multi Region

A Dvd recorder, HDD and freeview in a box will presently cost you I'm afraid (cue sucking-through-teeth sound). To my knowledge there's only a couple of manufacturers that do this, Sony and (possibly Panasonic) and the price is £500-600 !!!
They're only charging this much because there's not much competition (yet) at this end of the market. Expect prices to plummet when other manufacturers start to introduce them. I'm after the same thing, but no way can I afford £500+ , I'll going to wait 12 months and get have another look then.
In the meantime you can pick up a DVD recorder with timeslip (to RAM discs) and freeview for £140 (Panasonic DMRES20D mentioned above) from Richer Sounds... this might be your best bet.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0
