Is this a wireless connection to a router or a mobile broadband dongle? If the former, try resetting the router, by unplugging, leaving for about 10sec and then plugging back in again.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

If you click on the icon which says "Limited or no connectivity" and select "Repair" does that work or have you tried it already?
Also, it might sound silly, but the whole turning it off and on again really does work with these things!0 -
None of this has worked so far. I have switched on and off router & switched on & off computer. But the issue remains. Everything was working last night & our laptop is working through the same router?0

Do you know your WEP/WPA key? If so, you could go through the process with that again.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

I get this problem all the time. To solve it I turn off the firewall then do repair then turn the firewall back on again.
Maybe this could be your problem?
Hope that helps.

Sorry how do you turn off the firewall?
Have you installed your own firewall?
If not then windows xp/vista have their own one built in.
If you do not installed one go to ' Start' then 'Control Panel' then 'Security center'
That should list 'firewall'
Click on firewall under 'manage security settings' and you should be able to turn it off there.
Hope that helps.

Have managed to turn off firewall but the repair fails as unable to reniew ip address?
and yet the network is working on both our other 2 laptops?0 -
Have you tried in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING?
if it works in that then something is conflicting (Or you have something nasty residing):idea:0 -
...OR..you need to reset winsock stack on the pc...
go to start, run, type cmd to get the command prompt..
type "netsh reset winsock catalog " without the quotes, and hit enter
you will have to restart the pc, but then the router should be okay to assign IP address to it again.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
