As I said I know how to chnage but not sure which settings to use and where to find that info quickly. Not wishing to spend an hour on Google.

Well as we don't know what model of monitor you have how would we know?

You don't need to spend an hour on google, five minutes on the Dell site should do.

Here are all of Dells 19" monitors, you shoudl be able to find it on here. I'd make a guess at 1440 x 900 though.

  • I have a Dell 19ins monitor and it is set at 1024 x 768. It seems fine to me, but may not be to your liking. Tweak the sliding scale to see what suits you.

Managed to find out the monitor model using Belarc and dug through Dell site and got the optimun settings 1366 x 768. I naively thought, when I first asked the question, that there could of been a generic setting for a 19" wide monitor but clearly not so simple.

    Thnaks guys for your help

  • Goto the max available however that is only what the Video Card can provide and my not be the same thing, you may need a better graphics card or be lucky and if the monitor is only 1440 x nnn pixels. Note you do need to match the monitor to the graphics output.

When you buy a new Dell monitor it comes with a piece of rectangular thin foam which fits over the screen - and printed on the front of this is the native screen resolution. The 19" Dell E198FPb monitors we just bought are 5x4 format (that is, not wide-screen) and their native resolution is 1280x1024.

Saying a monitor has a 19" diagonal is no longer adequate, because of the appearance of wide-screen monitors, whose dimensions are 16x10 or 16x9, as opposed to the old familiar 4x3 (or 5x4) ones.

If you don't use the native screen resolution of an LCD monitor the picture quality reduces...

Managed to get re-set at right resolution but when I turned on this morning it had gone back to the wrong resolution. Any ideas how to stabilise this?
